BCBS of North Dakota launches Blue Alliance pay-for-performance program

Fargo, N.D.-based Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota will initiate a program, called Blue Alliance, aimed at shifting providers from fee-for-service reimbursements to a value-based model, the Grand Forks Herald reported.

The initiative branches from MediQHome, a BCBS of North Dakota value-based program that focuses on patients with chronic illness who receive treatment from a physician-led care team.

Blue Alliance will emphasize prevention and wellness, Elizabeth Faust, MD, senior medical director for behavioral health at BCBS of North Dakota, told the Herald. Blue Alliance's start date has not been released, according to the report.

Physicians from Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health and Fargo-based Essentia Health told The Herald their health systems welcome the payment changes, as the organizations have prepared for value-based payments for years.
