BCBS of Michigan taps Express Scripts to manage 2,400 pharmacies

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is poised to shift management of 2,400 pharmacies from roughly eight in-house employees to Express Scripts, according to Crain's Detroit Business.

The contract is effective Jan. 1. BCBS of Michigan is seeking to cut administrative costs and pharmacy prices, as well increase choices and give its 2 million members more product offerings.

The new contract is part of BCBS of Michigan's three-year plan to reduce administrative costs by at least $300 million by 2018, according to Crain's.

The eight employees affected by the change will be able to apply for other jobs within the company.
