Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is increasing reimbursement rates to qualifying small, independent primary care practices.
More than 1,000 primary care providers, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants, will be eligible for the increases, according to an April 8 BCBS Massachusetts news release. Eligible practices could see increases by as much as 30%.
BCBS Massachusetts said the funding will assist small, independent primary care practices and is not expected to increase members' total costs.
The announcement comes after a February Massachusetts Health Quality Partners survey found the percentage of Massachusetts patients who reported being able to see their physician when needed fell to a record low in 2023, according to the release.
