Eight updates on Aetna to know in July:
- The California Medical Association called for a review of an appellate court decision that sided with Aetna over accusations that the insurer violated the Unfair Competition Law.
- The payer signed a three-year contract with Dallas-based U.S. Dermatology Partners, providing in-network coverage to patients of the company's Dermatology and Skin Cancer Centers in Kansas and Missouri.
- Aetna was one of 11 payers to propose premium rate increases in Connecticut for 2022.
- Aetna and Optum issued a petition for a rehearing after a federal appellate court sided with a lawsuit that claimed the insurers used "dummy code" to make administrative fees appear as billable medical charges.
- CVS Aetna voluntarily dismissed its 2018 litigation with Mednax July 14.
- In an opening brief July 20, Aetna's legal team said a federal judge's decision to decline Aetna's motion to seal certain business information that it produced as a third party in an antitrust lawsuit could have grave consequences.
- CVS Health, which owns Aetna, was one of 17 health insurers named to the 2021 Disability Equality Index's best places to work for disability inclusion.
- Aetna will provide coverage to members using wearable heart monitoring devices distributed by medical technology company VitalConnect, a July 20 news release said.
