ACA enrollments up 13 percent

Enrollments in ACA exchange plans are up 13 percent from this time last year. 

According to the latest numbers from CMS, published Jan. 11, 15.9 million people have signed up for exchange plans since Nov. 1. About 1.8 million more individuals have signed up for coverage compared to 2022. 

Around 20 percent of the enrollees are signing up for ACA coverage for the first time, according to CMS. 

Provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act increased subsidies for marketplace insurance. According to Kaiser Family Foundation, 5 million uninsured people are eligible for coverage with no premium cost. 

Open enrollment for exchange plans ends Jan. 15.
