5 million individuals eligible for premium-free ACA plans

At least 5 million uninsured people are eligible for premium-free plans on the ACA exchange, according to a new analysis from Kaiser Family Foundation published Jan. 10.

Increased subsidies from the American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act mean 4 in 5 customers can purchase plans under $10, according to HHS estimates.

Kaiser Family Foundation researchers wrote many uninsured people do not shop for plans, because they assume the cost will be unaffordable. In 2021, 28 million Americans had no form of health insurance.

ACA open enrollment closes on Jan. 15.
