Humana will open primary care clinics at 23 former Walmart Health sites.
Walmart will lease the clinics to Humana, according to a July 24 news release. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Humana will open CenterWell Senior Primary Care and Conviva Care Centers in Walmart stores in Florida, Georgia, Missouri and Texas. The clinics are expected to open in the first half of 2025, according to the release.
In April, Walmart Health said it would close all 51 of its health centers. The retailer cited a challenging reimbursement environment and rising costs as reasons for the closures.
"Leasing these spaces to a well-known and successful healthcare delivery organization is a win for customers and patients, as we continue to focus on our core health and wellness business of pharmacy and optical," Brian Setzer, executive vice president of Walmart Health and Wellness said in the release.
Fortune reported Humana was among the potential buyers of Walmart's clinics July 2.
Humana will open CenterWell facilities at Walmart locations in six metro areas: Tampa, Fla., Orlando, Fla., Jacksonville, Fla., Atlanta, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Kansas City, Mo.
Humana operates nearly 300 CenterWell Senior Primary Care and Conviva Care Centers in 15 states. The two brands provide primary care to older adults enrolled in Medicare Advantage or traditional Medicare plans. Humana is the second-largest Medicare Advantage insurer in the U.S.
