With the closure of the deal that was first announced in September, IU Health Plans will now operate as part of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana, according to a Dec. 31 Anthem news release.
IU Health Plans serves 19,000 Medicare Advantage members across 36 counties and 9,600 fully insured commercial members through employers.
The acquisition of IU Health Plans is one of several acquisitions that Elevance announced or completed in 2024. The company announced in April that it plans to acquire Centers Plan for Healthy Living, a New York-based Medicaid long-term care plan. In March, Elevance closed its acquisition of infusion center and specialty pharmacy operator Paragon Healthcare. In October, the company said it intends to purchase Nashville-based CareBridge, a value-based home and community-based care provider for patients with chronic and complex needs. The same month, Kroger closed the sale of its specialty pharmacy business to Elevance.
Elevance posted $1 billion in net income during the third quarter of 2024, a 21% decrease compared to the same period last year, according to the company’s earnings report published Oct. 17. The company lowered its full-year earnings outlook from $37.20 in net income per diluted share to $33.
