UnitedHealth's new president: 5 things to know

UnitedHealth Group CFO John Rex took on the additional role of president effective April 1.

Here are five things to know about UnitedHealth Group's new president:

1. Mr. Rex was named to his role as UnitedHealth Group CFO in June 2016.

2. He previously served as vice president and CFO of UnitedHealth Group's Optum arm, beginning in March 2012.  

3. Prior to joining Optum, spent more than a decade in the financial services industry. His most recent role before joining the company was as a managing director for JP Morgan. 

4. He has an undergraduate degree from Provo, Utah-based Brigham Young University and an MBA from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. 

5. In 2022, Mr. Rex was the second-highest-paid UnitedHealth Group executive, along with COO Dirk McMahon — the man he is replacing as president. Both had a total compensation of $15.8 million.
