UnitedHealth Group’s health services arm, Optum, is shuttering three community centers in the Kansas City area.
Optum’s website showed its Converge KC facility in Kansas City, Mo., the Millcreek facility in Shawnee, Kan., and its North Kansas City, Mo., location as permanently closed. These community centers offered fitness, hobby-based, self-help and educational classes to those who are at least 55 years old.
“We remain deeply committed to delivering quality care and services to the patients and communities we serve. After careful evaluation, we have determined we can no longer keep the Optum community centers open,” an Optum spokesperson from the region said in a statement shared with Becker’s. “To support patients and ensure uninterrupted care, we are proactively reaching out to transition appointments to virtual visits and encouraging members to explore alternative exercise programs and services offered in the area.”
The recent news follows a string of other Optum closures across the country.
