Joseph B. Sobel, MD, has been named the chief medical officer for Cigna's Medicare business after joining the company a month ago, according to a March 8 news release.
He will oversee medical policy, behavioral health solutions and innovation strategies to support Medicare customers.
"As a board-certified physician executive, he has a unique combination of clinical, business, and management expertise," said Aparna Abburi, president of Cigna’s Medicare business in the release. "His well-rounded perspective and wealth of Medicare experience will help advance our efforts to provide quality, affordable health care for Cigna Medicare customers."
Prior to Cigna, Dr. Sobel was vice president and chief medical officer of senior products at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.
