In a Dec. 14 news release, the St. Louis-based payer said Mr. Layton will become senior advisor to the CEO as he “transitions toward retirement.” He has been with Centene since 2006.

Mr. Fasola is currently executive vice president of healthcare enterprises for Centene, and Mr. Murray is currently executive vice president and chief transformation officer. Both were previously executives at Magellan Health — Mr. Fasola was Magellan’s CEO and Mr. Murray COO — and joined Centene when it acquired Magellan in January.

Dave Thomas, currently Centene’s executive vice president of markets, has been promoted to CEO of markets and Medicaid, according to the release.

These appointments are effective Dec. 14, Centene said.

The payer also named Alice Chen, MD, as chief medical officer, effective Jan. 1, and Brian LeClaire, PhD, as chief information officer, effective Dec. 5.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
