Monica Schmude will lead Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, joining the payer after 13 years at Cigna.
According to an April 12 news release, Ms. Schmude was previously president of Cigna's mid-Atlantic commercial market, covering Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
She previously led Cigna's Pennsylvania-Delaware-West Virginia-Ohio market.
Ms. Schmude succeeds Jeff Rickets, who retired from Anthem BCBS Virginia in September 2022 after nearly 40 years with the company.
