Highmark Blue Shield inks contract with Temple Health

Philadelphia-based Temple Health will be in network with Highmark Blue Shield on Jan. 1, 2024 — pending regulatory approval — as the Pittsburgh-based payer expands into Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Highmark's agreement with Temple Health's hospitals includes individual ACA, small group ACA, large group fully insured and large group self-insured plans, according to a May 17 news release from the payer.

Dan Tropeano, Highmark's segment president for Southeastern Pennsylvania, said in the release that the agreement is a "key step as Highmark builds a hospital network in the region." Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield operates in Western and Northeastern Pennsylvania, while Highmark Blue Shield operates in the central and now southeastern parts of the state. Highmark BCBS also operates in West Virginia, Delaware and parts of New York.
