3 states awarding Medicaid contracts in 2025

UnitedHealthcare, Centene, Elevance Health and other insurers have picked up Medicaid managed care contracts in 2025. 

Here are three states awarding new contracts Becker’s has reported so far in 2025: 

  1. Arizona awarded Medicaid long-term care contracts to UnitedHealthcare, Centene, Banner-University Care Advantage and Mercy Care after a yearlong dispute process.

  2. Illinois awarded dual special needs contracts to Humana, Molina Healthcare, Centene’s Meridian and Aetna. The Medicare-Medicaid contracts will go live in January 2026 and run through 2029.

  3. Nevada plans to award contracts to UnitedHealthcare, Elevance Health, Centene, Molina Healthcare and CareSource to manage the state’s Medicaid program, according to a notice of intent.
