Optum Financial closed its acquisition of Alegeus Technologies, a platform offering benefits administration for consumer-directed healthcare accounts, July 2.

Optum Financial is the financial services branch of UnitedHealth Group’s Optum subsidiary. Alegeus administers benefits across health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act coverage and health reimbursement arrangements. Alegeus works alongside health plans, third-party administrators and financial companies.

“Joining Optum Financial enables us to create even more value for both our partners who count on our white-label approach, as well as the millions of consumers who rely on our platform,” Alegeus CEO Leif O’Leary said in a July 2 news release.

The acquisition aspires to simplify healthcare expenses for consumers. In the news release, Optum Financial said it already serves national and mid-market employers through its healthcare savings and spending business, and expects the deal to broaden its reach to more consumers.

“This acquisition reflects our disciplined approach to portfolio expansion, focused on making it easier for consumers to navigate healthcare,” Optum Financial CEO Aline Schellhas said. “We are excited to welcome the talented Alegeus team and their proven capabilities as we continue investing in solutions that help people manage healthcare with confidence.”
