BCBS Tennessee is in talks to sell its Cameron Hill headquarters in Chattanooga, Tenn., a spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s March 24.
“We’re in early discussions with interested parties,” the spokesperson said. “While it’s too soon to share specifics, there appears to be real momentum.”
Completed in 2009, the campus is 950,000 square feet and spans 12 acres, according to construction manager and developer Skanska.
A March 22 article from the Chattanooga Times Free Press said the spokesperson also confirmed the property is not presently listed through a broker. In 2025, Chattanoogan.com reported that the same spokesperson said the sale of the property could be a “yearslong process,” and the company hoped to maintain a presence in downtown Chattanooga.
“We’re taking an intentional approach because we want to get the transition right for BlueCross, for our employees and members, and for the Chattanooga community,” the spokesperson said to Becker’s.
The insurer listed its nearby 11-acre Gateway campus about three years ago, accepting an offer for $10 million in June 2023. At the time, the company anticipated retaining its Cameron Hill property to serve as a long-term headquarters. The company also offloaded its Johnson City, Knoxville and Nashville office spaces in 2022.
Over the past few years, BCBS Tennessee has leaned into its “remote-first approach to work,” allowing the company to downsize its physical space. As of 2022, 88% of the company’s employees were remote. Recruitment perks, retention, work-life balance and increased morale were among the decision’s drivers. In a previous interview with Becker’s, former Senior Vice President and CHRO Roy Vaughn cited the “critical” role of the transition in attracting and retaining talent.
