Forbes recognized 12 health insurers on its 2026 list of “America’s Best Midsize Employers,” published Feb. 10.
In partnership with market research firm Statista, the publication surveyed more than 217,000 U.S. employees at organizations with more than 1,000 staffers. For the midsize employers list, companies with between 1,000 and 5,000 employees were considered.
Survey respondents weighed in on wages, work environment, benefits and growth opportunities. Participants were also asked whether they would recommend employers. The top 500 companies made the list.
Several insurers made the cut in 2025 but not 2026, including UCare — which is now winding down — Medica, Priority Health, BCBS Mississippi, Select Health, Capital Blue Cross and BCBS Nebraska.
Here are the payers featured on the list, along with their relative rank:
4. Medical Mutual of Ohio
27. Arkansas BCBS
