U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., proposed legislation to “stop giving tax dollars to big insurance companies” and instead redirect premium tax credit amounts to people with a Trump Health Freedom Account, which would mirror a health savings account.

“My new bill makes simple fixes to Obamacare that will make a world of difference to American families by making Americans the consumer, not the government, while giving them options and transparency,” Mr. Scott said in a Nov. 20 news release.

The move aligns with President Donald Trump’s recent calls to reform how federal healthcare funds are distributed. President Trump has historically set his sights on expanding HSAs, as well.

This month, Politico reported House Republicans were also considering legislation to send ACA dollars to consumers.
