From the Justice Department expanding its criminal investigation into the company, to the completion of its acquisition of Amedisys, here are 12 updates on UnitedHealth Group and its subsidiaries that Becker’s has reported since Aug. 7:
1. Two U.S. senators are pressing UnitedHealth Group for answers on what they deemed “predatory” tactics from the company in seeking loan repayments from healthcare providers related to the 2024 Change Healthcare cyberattack.
2. UnitedHealthcare is suing Radiology Partners and its Arizona-based affiliate, Sonoran Radiology, alleging the companies have been “abusing” the No Surprises Act’s independent dispute resolution process and “funneling millions into the pockets of its private-equity owners.”
3. The Justice Department has expanded its criminal investigation into UnitedHealth Group, examining the company’s pharmacy benefit manager, Optum Rx, and how it compensates its employed physicians, Bloomberg reported.
4. Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine went out of network with UnitedHealthcare on Aug. 25 after the parties were unable to agree on a new contract.

9. UnitedHealth Group completed its acquisition of home health and hospice provider Amedisys in a deal valued at $101 per share in cash.
10. Optum acquired Kingsport, Tenn.-based Holston Medical Group. The 200-provider medical group has more than 70 locations in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
11. A New York man was arrested and charged with cyberstalking after allegedly harassing and sending threatening voicemail messages to a family member of murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
12. U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., are pressing UnitedHealth Group for details of a program that allegedly incentivized nursing homes to avert medically necessary hospital transfers for their residents.
