The approval from voters allows state lawmakers to consider a work requirement if the federal government permits it, according to the report. South Dakota voters approved Medicaid expansion in November 2022.
The issue before voters was spearheaded by state Rep. Tony Venhuizen and state Sen. Casey Crabtree. Mr. Venhuizen said in February that the measure’s passage “doesn’t mean we’ll come back here in January and implement it, it just means we have the option.”
