“Humana did announce some limited workforce reductions last week,” a Humana spokesperson told Becker’s Jan. 16. “The impacted positions represented a small percentage of our total workforce and were geographically dispersed across multiple locations.”

The spokesperson did not confirm how many employees are affected by the layoffs.

Several payers laid off employees in 2023, including Humana, which shuttered its SeniorBridge home care facilities, laying off 1,162 employees. In the first weeks of 2024, Blue Shield of California said it would lay off 140 of its employees at the end of January.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
