Providence Health Plan names chief medical officer

Laurel Soot, MD, has been named chief medical officer of Providence Health Plan.

She stepped into the role Jan. 14 after having served as interim CMO since November, the company said in a news release.

Dr. Soot has spent nearly 30 years at Renton, Wash.-based Providence. She spent the first 15 years of her tenure at the organization as a surgeon, supervising and leading medical students and surgical residents. She joined Providence Health Plan in 2016. 

As CMO of the health plan, she will oversee the development of “clinically appropriate policies and will support evidence-based decision-making.”
