Provider Partners Health Plans is laying off 161 employees spanning three states, according to Oct. 7 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, notices.

Provider Partners reported 79, 39 and 43 layoffs in Texas, Maryland and Illinois, respectively. The Texas and Maryland layoffs go into effect in early December.

In late May, CMS said it would suspend enrollment into the insurer’s contract in Maryland after the insurer lost all contracted long-term care facilities in the plan’s network and then disenrolled some members without their consent. While CMS lifted the suspension in August, the agency’s 2027 Medicare Advantage landscape file did not list the Maryland contract.

The landscape file indicated that Provider Partners also operates in Indiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. There was no Kentucky plan listed, despite Provider Partners’ website showing some counties.

The insurer focuses on institutional special needs plans, specialized MA plans for those living in long-term care facilities or needing an institutional level of care.

Provider Partners declined a request for comment from Becker’s.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
