Humana execs spending less time in Louisville in remote-work era, insiders say

Humana's executives are less tied to the payer's Louisville, Ky., headquarters as the company shifts toward remote and hybrid work, WDRB reported

According to the news station, which based its reporting on interviews with current and former Humana executives who requested anonymity, about half of the company's executives are based outside of Louisville, with some opting to work at Humana's Arlington, Va., office.

The news outlet described Humana as the city's "biggest and most important corporate citizen."

Bruce Broussard, Humana's CEO, was always "loosely connected" to Louisville, according to WDRB's sources. Mr. Broussard and his wife sold their Louisville condo in August 2020, public records obtained by WDRB show.

The couple bought a home in Washington, D.C., in 2019. Humana did not disclose to the news station if the CEO still has a residence in Louisville.

In a statement to WDRB, Humana said it maintains a Washington, D.C.-area office as it is home to the federal government, its largest customer.

"This makes good business sense and in no way diminishes our commitment to Louisville," the company said.

In its statement, Humana said more than 10,000 of its 65,000 employees are based in Louisville. The company has reduced its office space in the city, as more employees choose to work in remote or hybrid modes.

In June, Humana donated a 130,000 square foot office building to the University of Louisville.

"Like most companies today, Humana has evolved to offer more flexible work styles to attract and retain the best talent wherever they choose to live, while still meeting the needs of the business," the company said in its statement.
