How payers stack up on investing in employees

Payers are leading the way in the healthcare industry for investing in their workers.

Health insurers took four of the top five spots in the “worker” category of Just Capital and CNBC’s ranking of the top 1,000 publicly traded U.S companies published Jan. 10. 

The worker category includes companies’ scores in living wages, worker health and safety, workforce advancement, benefits and work-life balance, and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. 

Here’s how payers stacked up in Just Capital’s worker rankings: 

Cigna: No. 1 in healthcare, No. 34 overall

Humana: No. 2 in healthcare, No. 90 overall 

Elevance Health: No. 3 in healthcare, No. 212 overall 

UnitedHealth Group: No. 4 in healthcare, No. 216 overall 

CVS Health: No. 4 in food and drug retailers, No. 465 overall 

Centene: No. 12 in healthcare, No. 542 overall 

Molina Healthcare: No. 15 in healthcare, No. 766 overall
