Cityblock had previously partnered with CareFirst BCBS to provide services to Medicaid recipients in the District. In October, the council of the District of Columbia voted not to award BCBS with a new Medicaid contract and instead went with Amerigroup (Elevance), MedStar Family Choice and AmeriHealth Caritas D.C. for the next five years.

“We’ve made the difficult but strategic decision to reduce our operations in DC as we continue conversations to find a new value-based care partner,” Roger Cloutier, Southeast division president at Cityblock, told Becker’s in a statement. “Cityblock remains committed to serving DC and will continue our community work with our mobile health clinic, Blocky, which has proven to be a valuable part of our care delivery model in the District.”

Cityblock, founded in 2017, also operates in Indiana, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, and Ohio, according to its website. The layoffs are official on July 9.
