Bright Health lays off 150 workers, 5% of workforce

Bloomington, Minn.-based Bright Health Group is laying off 150 employees, totaling to 5 percent of its workforce, according to the Star Tribune

The company did not detail which of its 10 offices would be impacted by the layoffs.

"[Bright Health is] taking steps to improve operational efficiency — including targeted workforce reductions in certain areas of our business," Bright Health Group told the Star Tribune. "While this decision was difficult, we strongly believe it is essential for the long-term health and success of our organization to realizing our vision of making health care right together."

The company reported losses over the past year despite membership growth. Bright Health Group's Florida arm reported a 10-fold increase in enrollment over 2021, but still reported losses, according to the Star Tribune

The company also reported recently struggling with risk adjustment woes and processing claims, which resulted in slower payouts to providers. Errors related to loading new patient contacts into its system resulted in the issues, resulting in the need to reprocess claims.
