BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has moved away from AI software that monitored employee work, according to an Aug. 19 report from the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
The insurer confirmed to Becker’s that it recently ended a pilot based on employee feedback. The company had been using Skan AI, a platform that observes workflows and business operations, to better understand patterns and team capacity, the news report said.
The publication said it reviewed an Aug. 4 internal BCBS email regarding the program. Despite concerns expressed by employees, the email said Skan AI use had not resulted in any job losses.
The email added that possible future use of Skan AI or similar tools would be clearly communicated. BCBS also said it would inform employees of the intended goals, how collected information would be used and expectations around it, according to the news report.
“BlueCross has always used tools to help monitor and support productivity so we can operate efficiently on behalf of our members,” a BCBS Tennessee official told Becker’s. “And moving forward, we’ll continue listening to managers and employees as we measure productivity, quality and business outcomes.”
BCBS Tennessee has more than 6,000 employees, according to its website.
