Eleven people were arrested July 15 during a protest outside UnitedHealthcare's headquarters in Minnetonka, Minn., the Star Tribune reported.
According to the report, individuals with People's Action Institute were on-site to protest what they call improper coverage decisions made by the payer. People's Action Institute is a nonprofit focused on "issue campaigns, public education and training to advance a long-term agenda for racial, economic and gender justice," according to its website.
The Minnetonka Police Department described the situation as a civil matter/arrest on its website. The Star Tribune reported that protestors were arrested for blocking a road.
"UnitedHealthcare policyholders and medical professionals have petitioned, protested and spoken directly to the chief medical officer of UnitedHealth Group about our concerns, but their leadership has refused to acknowledge that prior authorizations and claim denials are a widespread problem," a director with People's Action said in a news release, per the Tribune.
"The safety and security of our employees is a top priority," a spokesperson for UnitedHealthcare told the newspaper. "We have resolved the member-specific concerns raised by this group and remain open to a constructive dialogue about ensuring access to high-quality, affordable care."
