CVS declined to share with Becker’s how many employees would be laid off at Aetna specifically, but reiterated the move is part of the company’s plan to eliminate 5,000 “non-customer-facing positions.”
“We do not expect there to be any impact to our customer-facing colleagues in our stores, pharmacies, clinics or customer services centers,” the company said in a statement Aug. 1 when the layoffs were announced. “We’re committed to supporting impacted colleagues, and they will receive severance pay and benefits, including access to outplacement services.”
The planned job cuts represent about 2 percent of CVS’ overall workforce. Across social media, former employees with Aetna detailed some of the positions that were part of the layoffs:
- Director of data engineering
- Lead director of network development
- Senior product designer
- Senior software engineer
- Senior scrum master
- Senior business analyst
- Project manager
- Program manager
