10 recent payer moves in virtual care

From several provider network expansions around behavioral telehealth to digital maternal health platforms, these are 10 recent payer moves to expand virtual care services.

  1. Molina Healthcare of New Mexico said Sept. 13 it is partnering with Tucson, Ariz.-based Pyx Health to offer behavioral health services centered around isolation support for Medicare members.

  2. Health Care Service Corp. said Sept. 6 it is expanding its Teladoc-powered virtual primary care to some midsize and large employer groups in Illinois and Texas for 2023. The new offering includes virtual urgent care, behavioral health and dermatology.

  3. Cigna's Evernorth said Aug. 25 it is partnering with San Francisco-based Bicycle Health to offer virtual opioid use disorder treatments to its clients and Cigna members with employer-sponsored or ACA coverage.

  4. Empire BlueCross BlueShield added four virtual and in-person behavioral health providers to its network Aug. 23: Alma, Headway, NOCD and Ophelia.

  5. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia said Aug. 17 it is partnering with Bethel, Conn.-based behavioral telehealth provider Confidant Health to offer BCBS members access to virtual addiction treatment services.

  6. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network said Aug. 10 they are launching a new virtual family building and maternity support offering for members in 2023 through a partnership with San Francisco-based digital health platform Maven Clinic.

  7. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield said Aug. 2 it is collaborating with New York City-based mental health startup Headway to increase access to behavioral health services by adding Headway's online platform to its network.

  8. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio has partnered with Waltham, Mass.-based behavioral health provider Eleanor Health to offer addiction and mental telehealth to commercial members, and at Eleanor clinics in select markets, according to a July 27 news release.

  9. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and Washington, D.C.-based Hurdle Health said July 19 they have partnered to offer free, culturally sensitive mental telehealth services to residents of Brooklyn Center, Minn., starting later this year.

  10. Elevance Health said June 7 it is launching a new telehealth platform to offer digital care to women for pregnancy, menopause and other women's health issues through a partnership with New York City-based Happify Health.
