Seventy-eight percent of U.S. adults want Congress to extend the enhanced ACA tax credits, according to a KFF poll published Oct. 3.
While the vast majority of Democrats and independents support an extension, most Republicans and “Make America Great Again” supporters are in favor, as well.
Only about a one-third of people are expecting a substantial increase in premiums.
“There is a hot debate in Washington about the looming ACA premium hikes, but our poll shows that most people in the marketplaces don’t know about them yet and are in for a shock when they learn about them in November,” KFF President and CEO Drew Altman said in a news release.
More than 8 in 10 respondents said they would worry if they heard the expiration would make healthcare unaffordable for those who purchase their own coverage. About 63% of people, though, would express concern over a large taxpayer burden to extend the credits.
