Doulas with formal training or demonstrated experience can now apply to become MassHealth providers, according to a Dec. 8 news release.
MassHealth’s reimbursements will be one of the highest of any state that covers doula services through Medicaid. As of February, ten states and Washington, D.C. offer doula coverage through Medicaid, with five more in the process of implementation. MassHealth covers about 40 percent of all births in Massachusetts, and the agency’s chief medical officer has issued a standing recommendation for doula services for all pregnant and postpartum beneficiaries.
