Massachusetts’ Division of Insurance and Department of Public Health has issued a bulletin Sept. 3 requiring insurance carriers to cover vaccines as outlined by the state, not just the CDC.

“We won’t let Donald Trump and Robert Kennedy get between patients and their doctors. When the federal government fails to protect public health, Massachusetts will step up. The actions we are announcing today will make sure people can continue to get the vaccines they need and want in Massachusetts,” Gov. Maura Healey said in a Sept. 4 news release. The efforts come as other states start forging their own paths with vaccines amid CDC and HHS turmoil.

The governor’s news release also said Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans favored the plan.

“Today’s action ensures that everyone who should get a vaccine will get one and their insurance will cover it,” said Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner Michael Caljouw in the release.
