Connecticut considers bill to reimburse insurers for pricey claims

Connecticut lawmakers are considering a proposal to reduce premiums by reimbursing insurers for the most costly claims, CT News Junkie reported Feb. 16.

The program could reduce premium costs by up to 30 percent, Connecticut Senate Minority Leader Kevin Kelly said. 

Republicans in the Connecticut statehouse have pursued the waiver program for several years, but it has failed to gain traction, CT News Junkie reported. 

According to the outlet, more than a dozen states have received waivers to use funds for ACA subsidies to directly pay insurers for costly claims.
