In a reversal, Colorado will continue to cover GLP-1s for state employees who already have prescriptions, the Colorado Sun reported May 20.
Copays for those individuals will increase from $30 to $120 in July, and the state’s health plan will not cover new GLP-1 prescriptions.
The state had originally planned to stop covering GLP-1s for weight loss in July but reversed course after criticism from lawmakers and the state employees union, according to the report. GLP-1 coverage for diabetes remains exempt from the policy.
The cost to cover the medications has increased from $1.5 million to $7 million in one year.
