The Alliance of Community Health Plans formed a patient advisory council — including those with diabetes, caregivers and community advocates — to guide research.
The council strives to include patient perspectives in chronic disease research and initiatives, a July 9 news release said. Along with shaping ACHP’s research priorities, the group will share feedback on how to better engage with patients and improve care.
“By listening to patients, caregivers and advocates, ACHP and its community-based members will gain direct insights into their challenges so future research produces ever more effective care,” ACHP Chief Medical Officer Jennifer Lee, MD, said.
The council’s first meeting focused on how patient-centered research should account for patients’ full financial and cultural context, as well as mental health considerations.
A Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award funds the council. ACHP first shared its intention to host a patient advisory group in February.
