WVU Medicine's new health plan is preparing Medicare Advantage, Medicaid policies

West Virginia University Medicine's new Peak Health plan will become a Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care provider in the state, MetroNews reported July 12.

Morgantown-based WVU Medicine first announced the new plan in September, with a launch date set for Jan. 1, 2023. The system's 30,000 employees and families will be the first to enroll.

By 2024, the system expects to begin offering Medicare Advantage plans with the aim of targeting small businesses. Eventually, the hope is to carry a Medicaid managed care plan and potentially offer a plan through the state's Public Employees Insurance Agency.

In February, Huntington-based Marshall Health and Mountain Health Network joined Peak Health as minority owners.
