At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, “parity” is in the title of its top leader on behavioral health.

Brett Hart, PhD, has served as Blue Cross Blue Shield’s president of behavioral health and mental health parity since 2023.

Dr. Hart told Becker’s the decision to include parity alongside behavioral health was a “very intentional” one.

“The reason being that, as an organization, there’s a high value placed on ensuring that everyone has access to behavioral healthcare, and that there are no barriers,” he said. “That involves not only a strategy around access in and of itself, but also a strategy around parity, because we want to examine ourselves from within, all of our processes, our structure, to make sure there are no barriers being placed at any level.”
