Walgreens to pay Humana $360M to settle drug pricing lawsuit

Walgreens will pay Humana $360 million to settle a lawsuit alleging the pharmacy inflated its drug prices.

In a Jan. 4 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Walgreens said it reached a settlement with Humana Dec. 29. Walgreens previously sued Humana, asking a judge to vacate an arbitration agreement that would have Walgreens pay $642 million to Humana.

Walgreens has already paid $150 million of the settlement, according to its SEC filing.

Humana alleged Walgreens submitted millions of falsely inflated prices, which resulted in the insurer being "significantly overcharged" and breaching their contract agreement, according to previous court filings.

A Humana spokesperson told Becker's the company has no comment on the settlement.

Walgreens is facing a lawsuit from several other insurers alleging the company "knowingly and intentionally engaged in an ongoing fraudulent scheme" to overcharge payers for drugs.

Becker's has reached out to Walgreens for comment and will update this article if more information becomes available.
