Ms. Eardley, marketing director at conservative advocacy group the Foundation for Government Accountability, wrote that she bought a short-term health insurance plan after aging out of her parents’ coverage.
Ms. Eardley wrote that “as a healthy young woman, I didn’t need the costly plans offered through the ObamaCare exchanges.”
In July, the Biden administration proposed limiting short-term insurance plans, which President Joe Biden has called “junk” insurance, to three months. Currently, these plans can be purchased for up to one year and extended for three more years.
Short-term plans don’t have to cover preexisting conditions and are allowed to bypass the ACA’s requirement to cover such services as maternity care and mental health treatment. Because of these exemptions, the plans typically have lower premiums.
“People who have good health insurance will lose it — and they will either find worse plans that don’t fit their lifestyle or wallet, or go without coverage altogether,” Ms. EardIey wrote.
“I didn’t have to make that choice when I bought my health insurance two years ago, but Mr. Biden is now forcing it on others.”
