Unveiled April 29, the partnership will direct more focus on educating veterans, their families and healthcare providers about safe opioid use. The initiatives’ goals include improving provider and patient interactions when it comes to opioid use and helping ensure better health outcomes for veterans.
David Cordani, president and CEO of Cigna, said in a prepared statement that “Public-private partnerships are critical to address the opioid epidemic in the U.S.” For its part, the VA’s Opioid Safety Initiative has helped reduce the number of veterans prescribed an opioid by more than 50 percent during the past six years.
