Part of what weighed into UnitedHealth’s decision was an ongoing evaluation of its research-focused partnerships, a company spokesperson told Becker’s Hospital Review. From a data security and privacy standpoint, the spokesperson added, many companies are revisiting their partnerships to get ahead of any potential risks.
UnitedHealth will continue its partnerships with academic institutions and other researchers, and is looking at new ways to enter into these types of agreements, the spokesperson added.
“UnitedHealth Group continues to expand its partnerships with leading organizations and experts to conduct health care research to advance the triple aim,” read the company’s prepared statement. “We appreciate the partnership with the Health Care Cost Institute over the past seven years and its contributions to healthcare research.”
Researchers will be able to continue to access UnitedHealthcare data until Dec. 31, 2022, according to Politico.
HCCI plans to approve up to 10 new projects during the first half of 2019, Politico adds.
