The two have been in negotiations for a new contract, but have yet to reach an agreement.
This week, Tennova is notifying healthcare plan participants of the pending change, and also urging customers to contact UnitedHealthcare’s director of sales to speak out about the apparent termination, according to the report, which cites notices being sent out by Tennova CEO Neil Heatherly.
Tennova spokesman Jerry Askew told WBRI the health system is still hopeful the two parties can reach an agreement by the end of the month.
According to Tracey Lempner, spokeswoman for United, the current pact affects about 15,000 commercial and Medicare members. Tennova hospitals in UnitedHealthcare’s network include University of Tennessee Medical Center and Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, both in Knoxville, as well as Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge (Tenn.).
