The payer filed a rate increase with the Arizona Department of Insurance for its preferred provider organization small group policies. Planned increases range from 6.4 percent to 11 percent, according to the report.
Department officials are reviewing the filing. If approved, the increases would be effective April 2017.
In a statement to Phoenix Business Journal, UnitedHealthcare said, “The rates that we have proposed simply reflect the use of healthcare services, as well as the cost of that medical care, including physician, hospital, pharmaceutical and diagnostic costs, which are key drivers of healthcare cost increases.”
