UnitedHealth Group has agreed to a $1.85 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging the company violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by making unsolicited, pre-recorded or artificial voice calls to individuals without their consent.
The original lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina in 2023 and claimed that the Optum at Home program targeted individuals who were not UnitedHealthcare members or had opted out of receiving such calls.
The settlement class includes all regular users or subscribers of wireless numbers that received calls between December 11, 2019 and March 27, 2025. UnitedHealth will pay $1.85 million to the settlement fund to cover payments to class members, administrative costs, and attorney fees.
The deadline for filing to be a part of the settlement fund is set for June 24. The court hearing to resolve the case is scheduled for Aug. 4.
