UnitedHealth Group shareholders reject health equity audit, political lobbying proposals

In a wide margin, UnitedHealth Group shareholders have rejected three proposals that revolved around health equity efforts, political donations and how much severance executives receive when they leave the company, according to regulatory filings published June 9.

All three proposals were shareholder-submitted. The final vote counts confirmed preliminary results that occurred June 5 at UnitedHealth's annual shareholders meeting.

The first proposal sought to implement a third-party racial equity audit, including an analysis on the racial makeup of company executives and further vetting of algorithms and how they refer patients to care across racial lines. The final vote on the proposal was 607,185,019 against, 157,630,052 for and 15,246,373 abstentions.

The second proposal sought to require a regular examination of the company's political contributions and lobbying activities to ensure they align with the company's values. The final vote on the proposal was 549,207,503 against, 215,377,861 for and 15,476,080 abstentions.

The third proposal sought more shareholder approval of how much severance senior managers receive when they leave the company. The final vote on the proposal was 505,348,482 against, 215,377,861 for and 1,400,672 abstentions.
