The rise in revenue is aided by UnitedHealth’s acquisition of Schaumburg, Ill.-based Catamaran Corporation, a pharmacy benefit company.
Revenue from the insurer’s health services arm, Optum, rose 61 percent to $19.3 billion in the third quarter. Revenue in the insurer’s UnitedHealthcare business increased 9 percent to $32.8 billion.
However, UnitedHealth’s earnings remained relatively flat at $1.6 billion. Earnings on a per-share basis rose to $1.65 a share from $1.63 a share one year before.
