Uninsured Americans could now pay up to $195 for COVID-19 tests

Free COVID-19 testing options are starting to disappear for Americans without health insurance after federal funding has run out, according to ABC News.

Quest Diagnostics said that patients who are not on Medicare, Medicaid or a private health plan will now be charged $125 for a QuestDirect PCR test, online or in-person. Quest has started to notify providers that they won't be reimbursed for uninsured claims.

New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell's GoHealth Urgent Care clinic sites will now charge between $120 and $195 for a PCR test, not including external lab fees.

Walgreens has made no decision yet and is awaiting further federal guidance.

Additional COVID-19 relief funding, including free COVID-19 testing without insurance, is stalled in Congress. Until then, providers must charge patients or absorb the cost of testing.
